What drives our desire to behave morally? Neuroeconomist Paul Zak shows why he believes oxytocin (he calls it “the moral molecule”) is responsible for trust, empathy and other feelings that help build a stable society.

Oxytocin apparently is the trust molecule and the moral molecule!

increases generosity.

empathy makes us moral.

using social media doubles the amount of oxytocin.

oxytocin connects us to people.

The easieat way to increase its release: a hug!

In the same line: FB -use releases oxytocin:

http://allfacebook.com/facebook-releases-same-hormone-as-cuddling_b39319

Glenn Fleishman posted on software that disables bits of the computer to make us more productive and to minimize distractions. (Freedom)

(more productive??? for god’s sake! till death till us part, increase your productivity! coz that’s the purpose of life, right?…)

can be found :

http://www.economist.com/node/16295664

mentioning a/o:

The term “continuous partial attention” was coined by Linda Stone, a former Microsoft and Apple executive who studies and writes about the cognitive deficits that computer-users experience. Most recently she has encountered a condition she calls “e-mail apnea”. (…) But the next step is to go beyond a software crutch, Ms Stone says, and to learn to change one’s behaviour without the need for full-screen modes and internet-disabling utilities. People should rely on their feelings, rather than technology, to dictate what they can or cannot do, she says.

But fans of Freedom are not concerned by such philosophical niceties; they use it because it makes them more productive.” —> Hooray!!

Linda Stone on EMAIL APNEA

Linda Stone on EMAIL APNEA:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-stone/just-breathe-building-the_b_85651.html

All too often, during such wrenching transitions, the voice of the learner gets muffled.

For that reason, we feel compelled to articulate the opportunities for students in this brave electronic world, to assert their needs and—we dare say—rights.

We also recognize some broader hopes and aspirations for the best online learning. We include those principles as an integral addendum to the Bill of Rights below.

Our broad goal is to inspire an open, learner-centered dialogue around the rights, responsibilities, and possibilities for education in the globally-connected world of the present and beyond.”
